Think outside the app: designing boutique hospitality UX
Lantana is a premium retreat on Cyprus's west
coast. Its app brings together bookings, check-in, smart-home controls, and shopping. The goal is to make each
stay easier without the app demanding too much attention — a quiet kind of luxury, built on care. ✦ My role: Product designer, UX/UI
Let the app shape the stay
Guests can choose an experience module for each villa: private cinema, poker and board
games, VR gaming room, yoga studio, or art studio. This choice makes the stay special and creates a wow moment
when guests arrive.
Make Smart Home smarter
RFID knows where the guest is in the house. It shows the guest nearby controls in the
app, so the screen stays simple — but guests can still reach every device if they need to. The app starts with
what the guest needs, not a long list of devices.
Make experiences effortless
Any family member can book an experience, choosing the time and details. Routine
lower-cost bookings go ahead without approval. Only important or expensive bookings require a simple yes or no,
so the person responsible can enjoy the holiday instead of managing it.
Shop now pay later
Online shopping without paying for each order — is that a dream? Guests shop in a couple
of taps, requesting items for the stay or souvenirs for departure, and those purchases join the final bill at
checkout.
Think outside the app
Premium hospitality UX is not about moving every moment into an app. It is about
connecting the app with the place, its guests, and the service behind the stay. Treat the app, villa, guest
roles, and operations as one system to remove unnecessary interactions without taking away control.
Lantana’s app should offer the right action at the right moment, then leave room for the place itself.
